I like this airport. Easy parking, not too busy. Nothing fancy but very comfortable to fly in and out of.My only complaint is the Raven Grill, way overpriced.
For those travellers with the foresight to actually look up reviews to the airports that they are going to, kudos to you.If you havent gathered already, this is a small airport. This is the type of airport where you are disembarking onto the tarmac, and then walking to the airport on foot. If youre going during rain season then its important that you at least have a jacket. Once inside, you will be presented with a single carousel for luggage. You will wait a while as you literally watch your luggage get transported from the plane back into the building. Also, you will wait some more as you watch each item of luggage get churned out onto the belt. If you were able to book a rental at the airport itself, rest assured. As of this writing I understand that rental companies at the airport are generally prepared to wait up to 12 hours if you are late. Call ahead as your mileage varies on this point depending on the rental company. If you rented from a non-airport rental company, be advised that you should call in advance in the event that you are late to see whether staff are prepared to wait. Be aware that not all companies are willing to wait for you. If you are planning on leaving by taxi, the drivers literally arrive based on the flight schedule. Outside of that time, the airport becomes deserted.
As far as airports go, I always really like the small ones. The first time I flew in and out of Abbotsford was over 15 years ago. It's close to the border, easy to get to, convenient and you can get very low cost tickets to places like Edmonton and Calgary. It's a small terminal with just a couple of gates and reasonably priced long term parking. If you need to get around Canada, this is a great airport to use.
Smaller airport. Reasonable facilities. Agree security need lesson in manners but they're doing their job. Sooner rude but safe than the alternative. Expect to walk out on tarmac to board and disembark. Dress according to weather. Only 3 gates so if 3 flights, security will take much, much longer. Arrive accordingly. All in all I approve
Way too many flights added, no new parking and only occasional extra security. This used to be a 5 star airport all the way but they've added so many flights there are zero parking spots and cars double parked everywhere making driving down many rows impossible in a pickup. They added overflow parking in the gravel lot along the road but no way to get a cart across the gravel. There is little advantage to flying out of YXX instead of YVR now. I've flown through here many hundreds of times but not much longer if it doesn't change quickly. Time to roll some of that profit back in before it all disappears with your customers.
